Born and bred in Yorkshire, Holgate joined the Blades from Everton during the January transfer window in 2024, agreeing a loan switch until the end of the season, having spent the first part of the current campaign in the Championship with promotion chasing Southampton.

Having progressed through the ranks at Barnsley, the versatile defender secured a move to Goodison Park in August 2015 and has played under the likes of Ronald Koeman and Carlo Ancelotti on Merseyside, establishing himself in the top-flight under the latter.
