Chris Wilder is confident the Blades will continue to strengthen the playing staff in the coming transfer windows, but without jeopardising the 'long term future of the club'.
The Blades boss was a guest on Sky Sports News earlier this week and spoke willingly with Jamie Carragher and Graeme Souness for over half an hour about a number of topics concerning the club, including adding to a squad, that currently sits seventh in the Premier League, when the next transfer window opens.
He commented: "I'm a huge believer in the financial side of this football club, it's important I always have my finger on the pulse.
"The Championship is a mess in terms of overspend with teams chasing the glory, which so many teams have done over the years."
Wilder added "We're custodians of the football club, we're in a complete different league to the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and those leading clubs in the country, we've come through the divisions and we can't get the cheque book out and put the long term future of the club in danger.
"We've spent money, we've invested in the squad already and made ourselves stronger. We'll continue to look at this situation closely and I'm working closely Stephen Bettis and the board to ensure we can continue to invest at a sensible level."
