"One of the best decisions I ever made was making Billy captain when I first walked through the door."
Those were the words of Chris Wilder when speaking to Jamie Carragher and Graeme Souness on Sky Sports News earlier this week.
The current campaign which is suspended at present because of the Covid-19 pandemic, is Sharp's fourth with the armband and his contribution doesn't go unnoticed by his boss.
Wilder remarked: "He and the club had just had a hugely disappointing season in League One, finishing mid-table and I knew how much Billy cared about getting this club up off the canvas.
"He must have won every award going in our title winning campaign in League One and all the plaudits he received were very much deserved.
"Unsurprisingly, he took that form into the Championship and once again Billy did what he does best and consistently scored goals in our first season back before being even more prolific last term."
Wilder continued: "But he is just one of a number of excellent senior professionals that help run the changing room on a daily basis.
"I'm the biggest supporter of my players, I always have been, because I've signed them and brought them to the club for a reason.
"But when something needs saying for the benefit of the group it is said and the players know it's black and white with me."
