Skipper Ellie Gilliatt arrived from Sheffield FC this summer where she had over 200 appearances. Arriving at Sheffield FC in 2011, Gilliatt helped them to secure three FA WPL League titles, Four County Cups, an FA WPL League Cup and was part of the team that secured promotion to FA WSL in 2015. In April 2018, Gilliatt became the third player ever to pass the milestone of 200 first team appearances, with one of the other players being Blades manager Carla Ward. In spite of being a left-back, Gilliatt is an exciting attacking player, contributing to over 60 goals for Sheffield FC where she is the sixth highest scorer of all-time. Ellie has also represented England at Under-23 level.
The pacey full-back is a leader on and off the pitch, with Ward naming her as captain for United's first WSL season. Off the pitch, Ellie is Senior Technical Officer at Network Rail. Gilliatt is one of the nominees for Rail Person of the Year at the Rail Staff Awards 2018 for going above and beyond her role, something she also does for the Blades.
