Katie Wilkinson has been named as the FA Women's Championship Player of the Month after five goals in three league games helped Sheffield United Women to some vital results in December.
With a staggering 17 goals in 16 games for the season, Wilkinson ended the year with her first senior hat-trick against Leicester City, following on from goals in big games against London City Lionesses and London Bees earlier in the month.
Wilkinson also scored twice in the final Continental Cup game of the group stages, bringing the Blades back from 2-0 down and her 87th minute free-kick secured a quarter-final encounter with holders Manchester City.
United's no.9 also provided an assist for strike partner Olivia Fergusson in the 3-1 win against London Bees, meaning she scored seven goals and assisted another across our four games in December.
Speaking of her player of the month award after her third nomination of the season, Wilkinson said: "I'm buzzing to finish the year off as player of the month. I feel like I've been made to work for it after being nominated three times, but third time lucky and I'm really grateful to the people who took the time to vote for me, so thank you.
"December was a tough month for us, we had some difficult fixtures but got the job done in every single one of them, so to contribute and help the team in each of them is the most satisfying thing."
Manager Carla Ward also praised Wilkinson's contribution to the team during December.
"I'm delighted for Wilko. She's finished the year really well, not only with her goals but she has contributed to the team brilliantly and this is a thoroughly deserved award."
