Chris Wilder was delighted when Jack O'Connell committed his long-term future to the football club earlier this week.
It was announced on Thursday morning that the 24-year-old defender had penned new terms that saw him extended his contract with the Blades until the summer of 2023, leaving his boss more than happy.
He remarked: "We talk about the long-term and resigning players that we want to build the future around and that's important for me as a manager.
"I believe in forward thinking and planning and to have Jack sign an extension to his contract is great news, it's deserved reward for Jack for his performances since he came to the club and it's been a really good fit.
"We've given him the opportunity as a football club and staff, but he's had to take that opportunity and he's certainly done that."
Wilder continued: "I'm delighted that Jack, alongside Enda, Billy and David McGoldrick will be part of this club moving forward.
"We've got assets at the football club now, I didn't see that when I walked through the door. I don't want or see a fire sale in the near future, but what we've got throughout the groups shows to me we're moving in the right direction."
