The Blades held their cool in the heat of the Yorkshire derby with Chris Basham grabbing the winner

Another mammoth defensive display paved the way for victory.

Blades chief Wilder made three changes for the short trip up the M1. Sharp, McGoldrick and Cranie all started. Dowell and Hogan dropped to the bench, whilst Madine began his suspension.

At kick-off, in wet and soggy conditions, it became apparent that Basham was part of the central midfield trio, although partner Norwood fired the first chance over the crossbar from 30 yards.

Leeds, though, made the better start. Egan was forced to block from Bamford after Hernandez got around the back of the Blades defence and then Harrison sidefooted over from six yards following a Klich cross.

On 20 minutes Bamford half-volleyed over as the pressure continued and then Roberts headed wide from an Alioski cross. There was a little respite but Norwood's free-kick struck the wall and then a dangerous Leeds break ended with Alioski shooting high, wide and not so handsomely.

The Blades, though, came into the game as half-time approached. Stevens won possession and tried to force a cross and then two Fleck corners saw Basham and Egan cause problems in the Leeds box. Jansson deflected a Sharp shot wide and the last action of the half saw Basham race away from the home defence but, after rounding Casilla, he was unable to find a pass.

The visitors also started the second half well with Baldock prominent but the only serious chance of the first 15 minutes saw Norwood off target with a left-footed effort.

On the hour Roberts watched his shot come back off an upright after latching on to Klich's pull-back, but the next time the Blades went forward the deadlock was broken.

Key to the goal was Jansson showing more interest in McGoldrick than the ball down the left and after Cooper failed to secure possession, Sharp calmly picked out the onrushing and free BASHAM, who slipped as he slid the ball beyond Casilla and into the net.

Wilder's side were steely in protecting Henderson for the remaining minutes. Cranie blocked from Hernandez and Jansson, added to the attack, sidefooted wide a Clarke cross.

Just after five minutes of added time was announced, Leeds were reduced to ten men when Casilla was caught out of position and was forced to bring down Sharp. The home side had made all their changes and Jansson was forced to go in goal. The subsequent Norwood free-kick was kicked away but the Blades were solid in keeping the home side out in the last moments, fully deserving a seventh consecutive clean sheet.
