Kean Bryan admitted there could be no excuses following Sunday's Emirates FA Cup exit at the hands of Barnet.
Reflecting on the loss to the National League outfit, the United debutant remarked: "It was very tough to take, it wasn't the best performance at all.
"The only positive for me personally is getting out there and playing at Bramall Lane, after a frustrating few months.
"It hasn't been the best of the starts for me, I came with an injury, got myself fit, then got injured again.
"It wasn't what I wanted and to make my debut in a game like that was bitterly disappointing, I'm gutted really."
Bryan added: "We should be beating Barnet, no disrespect. We made changes, but we had some experienced players out there and we should have won the tie.
"It wasn't to be, they came with a plan and it came off, there can be no excuses, we should have been ready and performed better.
"We've all taken a step back from being considered to play, so all we can do is work hard to try and prove ourselves again."
