Martin Cranie believes United's togetherness is key to hopes of a successful season.
Cranie was part of the Huddersfield squad that won promotion to the Premier League two seasons ago and he hopes to relive that experience again this term.
He remarked: "There are a lot of similarities with the way the lads play for each other, it's similar to the team spirit we had at Huddersfield.
"A lot of teams have got higher profiles names, but as a team I believe we one of the best teams in the Championship.
"The manager knows what he wants to do and has signed players who can play the system. It's gelling nicely and we've got a great a chance.
Looking ahead to Sunday's Emirates FA Cup third round tie against Barnet, Cranie hopes a good cup run for the Blades will be a welcome distraction from the league fortunes.
He added: "I didn't actually play, but we won the FA Cup when I was at Portsmouth.
"I've seen first-hand what it's like to win it and what it feels like when the trophy is lifted, it still means a lot to people, so we want to progress.
"We've got to strive to go as far as we can, it's a chance for some of us to get a game and prove ourselves, it'll be good for everyone at the club."
