Hat-trick hero Billy Sharp was almost lost for words, following a cruel ending at Villa Park.
The skipper bagged a second hat-trick of the season, scoring his 100th Blades goal in the process, but a night United dominated ended in bitter disappointment as Villa somehow rescued a draw against the odds.
Sharp remarked: "It would have been one of the best nights of my career, but in the end I was gutted.
"I still can't believe we threw it away. The build-up has been excellent, all week we've spoken about performance, the manager has too.
"We got it absolutely right until they scored and although it hurts now, we must make sure it doesn't hurt us again."
The skipper added: "It should have been a win, we were 3-0 up, dominating at Villa Park until they score and it's bitterly disappointing, especially with the goals we conceded.
"At half-time, we said we just needed to be calm and make good decisions because we are all good players out there.
"We just didn't do that in the last ten minutes, we lashed at ball and let them come on to us. We didn't stop crosses and they got their tails up with the help of the crowd."
