Marvin Johnson felt the Blades fully deserved Saturday's win at West Brom.
Kieran Dowell's first Blades goal proved decisive at The Hawthorns, as United climbed back up to second spot in the Sky Bet Championship.
And Johnson was full of praise for his team-mates, he remarked: "We dug in and fought well, we knew exactly what to expect from a really good side.
"We had to be at our best, especially defensively because of the attacking threats that are able to offer.
"This game was similar to the one early in the season, they took their chances that day, this time we performed better and were really strong at the back."
The Middlesbrough loanee added: "It's tight at the top, we can only concentrate on ourselves and take it game by game. People will doubt us, but we'll continue to stick together.
"We know what the aim is, but we can't get too far ahead of ourselves. Teams know how we play and the tempo we play at, if we perform, we will win more than we lose."
