All at Sheffield United are saddened to hear of the passing of Jim Smith.
Sheffield-born Jim was a player on the books at the Lane, but never made a first team appearance. He became a part time player in January 1959 before leaving to join Aldershot, going in to make a total of 250 appearances for several clubs.
His career as a manager saw him take charge of Colchester United, Birmingham City, Oxford, QPR, Newcastle United, Portsmouth and Derby County.
He famously had a framed picture of Bramall Lane on his office wall and was good friends with the late, great Alan Hodgkinson.
The thoughts of all at Bramall Lane are with Jim's family at this sad time.
