Billy Sharp knows the importance of building on Saturday's win at Preston North End, ahead of two fixtures this week.
Speaking ahead of Wednesday's clash against Birmingham City, United's captain insisted the players are focusing on the next test because that's what they can control.
He remarked: "Six wins will mean we know we've done it, it will be incredibly hard but we are capable of doing it and we have to believe we can do it.
"Our fixtures are tough, Leeds fixtures are tough and we've already seen the twists and turns I spoke about a few weeks ago.
"It may happen again with how the fixtures are scheduled, but we have to focus on ourselves, stick together and keep believing, if we do all that we have a right chance."
The skipper added: "We've got to finish a busy week off with two more results, we've started it well with a win at Preston, but we've got a tough game on Wednesday against a team fighting to stay up.
"We are at one end fighting for something, they are at the other fighting for something else, it is going to be a tough match, but we are more than capable of getting a result.
"The points deduction has dragged them down, but we know they are a good team and they showed that at the weekend."
