All at SUFC are sad to hear of the passing of former player Pat Laverty after illness.
Laverty was signed in 1956 by Joe Mercer and went on to make eight first-team appearances for United, making his debut on the 29th December 1956, in a 5-0 thrashing of Barnsley. He also scored a brace against our neighbours in a County Cup Final.
The inside forward left the Lane for Southend in July 1960 and made 21 League appearances for them before going into non- league football.
He was later assistant manager to the legendary Geoff Hurst at Telford. Laverty was very proud of his time as a Blade and loved his time in Sheffield.
Our sincere condolences go out to his family at this sad time.
