Richard Stearman returned to the Blades side last weekend following an injury to John Egan and is looking for more game time in forthcoming matches.
But the experienced defender knows competition for places in the United line-up is fierce, especially with the club sitting top of the Sky Bet Championship.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, he commented: "It was great to be back in the side, I've waited patiently but I cannot have any complaints because the lads have done well at the back and we are top of the league.
"Any footballer will tell you they want to play and I'm no different, I've waited for my chance and trained hard. I keep myself right and stay professional, supporting the lads who have had the shirt because I want to be part of a winning team.
"What I've had to do is try and give the gaffer a headache by training hard from Monday to Friday and when I get on the pitch I want to take my opportunity."
