The spoils were shared in the first Sheffield derby of the season.

United enjoyed more possession and a number of corners in both halves, but Wednesday managed to hold out for a point, with David McGoldrick seeing a first-half penalty saved by Cameron Dawson.

Boss Wilder made three changes for the Sheffield derby at Bramall Lane. Basham, Duffy and McGoldrick all were named in the starting XI, with Coutts and Clarke dropping to the bench, Cranie missed out.

The atmosphere was electric inside the Lane and Fleck stung the palms of Dawson from distance with the first shot on target. From the resulting corner, O'Connell peeled away at the back post but headed wide under pressure from Hector. A set-piece from the visitors earnt a corner, from which Fox fired over from point-blank range.

On 15 minutes, the Blades crafted an opening to go in front. Duffy combined with McGoldrick and was in on goal until he was pulled down by Fox. Referee Madley pointed to the spot, but Dawson guessed the right way to deny McGoldrick from twelve yards.

Wednesday ventured forward and Fletcher hit an ambitious half-volley high and wide, before the Blades forced successive corners at the other end, from the second, the ball was worked to Norwood, who fired over from a promising position. The Blades continued to be the attacking force, Norwood sprayed the ball out to the right but from Freeman's cross, Sharp couldn't redirect the ball towards goal.

With the half hour approaching, Duffy dropped his shoulder to make space for a shot, which appeared to be goal bound, until Hector intervened with a header. A swift move down the left, saw the visitors dragged out of position, but Baker scrambled the ball at the expense of corner at the near post.

The second-half saw United characteristically on the front foot, McGoldrick got the better of Bannan, but his effort was held by Dawson. In response, Fletcher flicked a ball to Reach who struck from distance, but it went harmlessly over the bar.

United were enjoying plenty of the ball, but struggling to penetrate the visitors backline. Bannan became the first booking, for a nasty lunge on Stevens, after misplacing two passes in as many minutes. At the other end, United had a scare, but a combination of Freeman and Henderson denied Matias.

With five minutes remaining, Baker was booked, with Stevens again the victim of a late challenge, the referee allowed the game to flow, with Duffy denied by Dawson. The bookings were mounting up against the visitors, with Hector carded for wrestling Clarke. Matias tried his luck on the turned but his effort was comfortable for Henderson.

Three minutes of added time were signalled, and Sharp almost won it from Norwood's corner in the second of those. He rose highest but planted a header wide of Dawson's far post. With last kick of the game Dawson beat away Norwood's shot from a free-kick, after a combination of Fox and Hector had Clarke.
