United Ladies completed the 2018 campaign with a fine win at bottom of the league Leicester City Ladies to finish in style. This the last of six consecutive away games to finish the league season, the team welcoming back regular captain Rosa Neary to the starting line up after missing the last few games through injury.
United started strongly from the off and had an early 'goal' disallowed, Tania Marsden then hit a City post and Georgia Stevens the crossbar. After early domination but no goals the breakthrough finally came from an unlikely source when Jorden Spurr blasted in. The long-serving defensive-midfielder was the only outfield member of the squad not to score any of the 151 United scored in season and left it until the last day to register this season.
Marsden made it two a minute later beating two defenders to blast into the corner of the net to take into the half-time break.
City pulled one back after the break but it would United all the way to the end despite a spirit and commendable performance by the home side.
Sophie Bell restored the two-goal margin with a cross/shot that dropped in for 3-1. Jodie Hartley and Bell combined to set up top scorer Nat Shaw to finish for 4-1 and claim her 24th of the season.
Marsden made it five from a long goal kick to race in and finish for her second of the game. Spurr then set up the newly-crowned Players' Player of the Season Hollie Barker to slot home the sixth to complete the scoring.
A great way to finish the season and the third place is the highest the United Ladies have achieved so far in the womens pyramid.
