129 years ago today (22nd March), a meeting took place on the second floor of 10 Norfolk Row in the centre of the then town of Sheffield, the offices of J.B Wostinholm.
Commencing at 7.30pm and, following the record gate receipts for the recent FA Cup Semi Final at Bramall Lane of in excess of £500, an agreement was passed by the majority of one to form a Football Club to play at the ground from the following season.
Then next day, a small advertisement was placed in two local newspapers announcing that the committee of the Sheffield United Cricket Club had decided to form its own football club and invited professionals to send in their "testimonials and particulars" before 30th March.
Taking the name from the cricket club, Sheffield United FC was born.
Happy Birthday, Blades.
