United's preparations for the forthcoming campaign got off to the best possible start, with a resounding win over Stocksbridge Park Steels on Friday evening.
At a warm and humid Bracken Moor, Chris Wilder fielded a different XI in each half and there were four names on the scoresheet.
John Fleck netted the first of the night, before a brace from skipper Billy Sharp. After the interval Tyler Smith added a fourth, before Caolan Lavery added a fifth.
There were a number of half chances for the Blades early on and the opener came on 12 minutes, with FLECK curling home following the edge of the penalty area, following some neat build-up play.
Five minutes later, the lead was doubled with SHARP slotting past Greaves having linked up nicely with Clarke, who himself was denied on three separate occasions.
Before the break, the visitors netted a third and it was captain SHARP who reacted first to a mix up between defender and goalkeeper to slot into the empty net.
The Blades picked up where they had left off following the resumption, with SMITH getting on the scoresheet in the 49th minute.
To their credit the non-league hosts continued to produce a spirited fight and SWINBURN netted a consolation from the edge of the penalty area with 25 minutes remaining.
Holmes looked lively for the Blades, but it was LAVERY who netted United's fifth, turning home a low left-wing cross from Stevens, to round off the scoring.
