Chris Wilder has bolstered his attacking options with the signing of David McGoldrick, following a successful trial period at the club.
The free-agent, formerly of Ipswich Town, has put pen-to-paper on an initial one-year deal at Bramall Lane, although there is a view to an extension.
McGoldrick has started the last two friendlies, against Bradford City and Mansfield Town, and is poised to make his home debut against Inter on Tuesday evening.
The 30-year-old has a vast amount of Championship experience, including spells with Southampton and Nottingham Forest.
Last season, the Republic of Ireland international scored eight times in 24 appearances in all competitions for the Tractor Boys.
Speaking of his third summer addition, following on from Dean Henderson and John Egan, boss Wilder remarked: "I've continually said that we only want to bring in players who strengthen us and David ticks that box. He's a great link player, has a wealth of Championship experience and he may be coming into the best years of his career.
"David wanted to return north and this was too good an opportunity to turn down. His attitude and ability, not only in the matches he has played, but also on the training ground, is without question. I've spoken to a number of respected people about David and they cannot speak highly enough of him."
Tickets are still available for this evening's Inter game at Bramall Lane.
