United failed to show the cutting edge of other pre-season games in being held by League Two Mansfield Town on Saturday.
Trialist McGoldrick started again for the Blades, he partnered Sharp in attack. New record capture Egan, signed on Thursday, was amongst the substitutes.
The first chance fell to McGoldrick on six minutes but he saw Logan make a save. Basham crossed for that opportunity and was also the provider when Sharp almost got on the end of a low cross.
Fleck twice tried his luck from distance and Sharp was almost gifted a goal by Logan's short pass but the Blades skipper could not find the net with his left-foot.
Stags, who included three former Blades youth team players in Khan, Mellis and Hamilton, were a threat through experienced striker Davies, who headed over a corner and was snuffed out in separate incidents by Basham and Stearman.
The best move of the half, on 42 minutes, saw United go close. Six players were involved in a calm passing move from back to front but Logan parried away Duffy's effort.
Moments after the interval Sharp stabbed into an empty net but he was flagged offside, it was the follow up to Logan spilling a shot from Stevens.
The second half was all United but the decisive goal was elusive. Evans curled a free-kick straight at the goalkeeper and after five changes around the hour mark, Basham, Lundstram and Holmes all fired over the crossbar.
With six minutes remain Mansfield had an opportunity when Holmes was robbed of possession but Graham's shot struck team-mate Angol and very late on Leonard poked wide for the Blades after Basham and Baldock had gotten around the back once more.
