United's U18s came up short in the junior steel city derby on Saturday.
Sam Graham headed the Blades into an early lead, but a brace from Ben Hughes and a strike from Alex Hunt were enough for the Owls to take all three points.
The Blades started on the front foot and put the Owls under heavy pressure which was rewarded when GRAHAM towered above everyone to head home on 15 minutes.
The scores were soon level however as within two minutes Wednesday restored parity, with HUGHES netting from close-range.
After the interval United pushed on to try and regain the advantage with Ackroyd and then Doherty only denied by excellent saves from the Wednesday goalkeeper.
Dewhurst would be called into action to keep the scores level as he made a great one on one save at the other end.
But moments later the lead would be Wednesday's with HUNT giving Dewhurst very little chance from a free kick just before the hour.
United made changes in an attempt to find an equaliser and threw bodies forward but it was Wednesday who got the game's decisive fourth goal through HUGHES.
