United's U18s came up short against a strong Leeds team on Saturday with a trio of first half goals seeing off a very young Blades side that would be reduced to ten men at the SteelPhalt Academy.
The first quarter of an hour was very quiet and lacked chances but on 17 minutes the visitors would have the lead from seemingly nothing as a driven run towards the left seemed harmless but a dragged effort found its way into the far bottom corner.
Just a minute later United came close to an equaliser as Ackroyd took a shot from the inside of the area but a deflection saw it go just wide of a post.
Another quiet spell ensued with both teams searching for chances and Leeds would take their opportunity as a cross from the right was met emphatically from eight yards out as the header was powerfully placed into the top corner.
Leeds would have the game wrapped up just two minutes later as Cutts surrendered possession in defence and the forward drove through one-on-one and drilled into the bottom corner to make sure the points were heading to West Yorkshire.
After the interval chances were scarce as an Ackroyd effort from distance curled just past a post and a Leeds free kick striking the post were the most noteworthy moments.
The Blades would be reduced to ten men in the final five minutes as an off the ball incident saw Cutts receive his marching orders from the referee.
