Cllr Anne Murphy, the Lord Mayor of Sheffield, has set United a unique Steel City Derby Charity Challenge.
Each year the Lord Mayor selects charities to support during their year in office. This year the Lord Mayor has chosen the following charities: Sheffield Dementia Alliance, Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind (SRSB), Young Carers, Artworks and Sheffield Renal Unit.
The Lord Mayor was delighted when she was offered a charity bucket collection for both Steel City derby games this year. Her team of supporters collected prior to the SWFC V SUFC match at Hillsborough in September and raised a fantastic amount of £1,546!
So the challenge is on for fans at Bramall Lane to beat this amount and win the Lord Mayor's Steel City Charity Derby!
The Lord Mayor says: "I am so grateful to both SWFC and SUFC for supporting my charities we raised a fantastic amount at SWFC. However, I know how passionate fans are to win the Steel City derbies and I am challenging SUFC fans to beat the amount raised at Hillsborough! So all fans please dig deep on Friday, our collectors will be wearing white t shirts and we have got some special red buckets for donations so no excuses. Come on you red and white wizards!"
