New arrival Ricky Holmes witnessed the atmosphere at Bramall Lane for Friday's Steel City derby ahead of signing for the Blades.
The 30-year-old became United's fourth capture of the January transfer window when his signing was announced on Monday. He joins Ryan Leonard, Lee Evans and James Wilson, the latter trio were confirmed ahead of the game and were involved in the matchday 18.
Holmes, though, had to wait and was a spectator at the game. He said: "We were trying to get the deal done before the game but it wasn't to be. It is no secret that I watched the game and the atmosphere was electric.
"Championship football and the way Chris Wilder plays had already sold the club to me, but Friday night emphasised it.
"I've looked at the fixture list and every game is a cup final for me. I've got experience of being successful but the Championship is new. I can only go on playing Championship teams in cup games and pre-season and I've faired OK."
