Goals from Richard Stearman and John Lundstram were enough for the Blades to beat QPR at Bramall Lane on Tuesday evening.

United were good value for another home victory, one that lifted them up to seventh place, despite Luke Freeman netting for Ian Holloway's side.

For the clash against R's, Wilder made one change from the team that started the last league game against Leeds, with Lundstram starting in midfield. Moore and Fleck missed out again through suspension, whilst Wilson and Holmes were sidelined with ankle and back problems respectively.

There were chances at both ends in what was a frantic start. Firstly, the visitors threatened from a corner, with Smith being denied at the near post. At the other end, United had two chances in quick succession, with Baldock firing over after Smithies had miscued a punch. Then, Lundstram and Clarke were denied by Smithies and Onuoha on the rebound, after a cross by Stevens.

The opening 20 minutes continued to see the game remain open and the Blades had penalty appeals turned down by referee Langford as Sharp and Scowen clashed. In the 23rd minute, the Blades should have taken the lead, Onuoha got in a terrible mess under pressure from Sharp, but the Blades skipper lofted his effort wide from a very promising position.

But four minutes later, United did hit the front. From Duffy's corner, Clarke got across his marker to flick it on and STEARMAN was on hand to slid the ball home at the back post. Lifted by the goal, Evans then rifled an effort goalwards, on for a deflection to divert it off target. Looking for an equaliser, Rangers almost levelled from a corner, with Washington seeing his header cleared off the line by Basham.

With half-time approaching, United enjoyed another spell of pressure, Evans dragged an effort wide after Clarke had got in behind down the left and then from a similar position, Clarke's cross just evaded Sharp.

Two minutes into the second period, Blackman came to United's rescue twice in a matter of seconds to deny Freeman and then Washington on the rebound. But in the 50th minute, it was the Blades who added a second. Sharp found space down the right channel and his low cross found the onrushing LUNDSTRAM at the back post.

The Blades were now firmly on top and a combination of Onuoha and Baptiste almost contrived to score a bizarre on goal. But it was the visitors who gave themselves hopes in the 63rd minute, with the ever-dangerous FREEMAN firing home from the edge of the area after another surging run forward.

The game continued to ebb and flow, with Smithies almost fumbling a Sharp cross into his own net. But at the other end Wszolek got in behind the United defence and Washington should have done better. With 16 minutes remaining, Wilder made a double change, with Donaldson and Leonard replacing Sharp and Duffy.

With six-minute remaining Lafferty replaced Lundstram as Wilder made his final change. Freeman continued to look a threat for Rangers and Smith headed his cross straight at Blackman as the clock ticked down. But United safely played out five minutes of added-time to register a second consecutive home victory.
