Chris Wilder says David Brooks could feature for the Blades in Friday Emirates FA Cup fifth round tie at Leicester City.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, the Blades boss hinted the Welsh international is edging ever close to a return to first-team action, having overcome a bout of glandular fever.
Wilder remarked: "We're looking good, although we've had a few of boys miss a couple of days through illness.
"They will train on Wednesday and a couple of boys also came through some minutes for the U23s on Monday.
"David played 45 minutes, scored and got an assist at Hull and because of the numbers comes into our thinking for Leicester.
"Kieron got 25 minutes or so at the death, but it's too early for him, he's got to go through the process having been out since mid-October."
Meanwhile, the United chief says Ched Evans is now fully fit following ankle but forces a fight to get into his matchday 18, given the form of the strikers currently ahead of him.
Wilder added: "Ched is ready to play, I've made no secret of the fact that I've got Leon on 15, Billy and Clayton have scored goals and James Wilson could have easily had more than more.
"He's got players in front of him and he's got to fight his way through them to earn a place in the squad."
