Chris Wilder has made a swift move in adding to his squad, ahead of the opening of the January transfer window.
The Blades have secured the services of Everton prospect Kieran Dowell on-loan for the remainder of the season, in a deal that comes into effect from Wednesday 2nd January.
Dowell joined the Goodison Park ranks at the age of seven and progressed through the system, signing a scholarship in 2014. Later that year, Dowell made his senior debut for the Toffees against FC Krasnodar in the UEFA Europa League. He made his Premiership debut against Bournemouth in April 2016, before starting the final game of 2015/16 season against Norwich City.
Last season Dowell impressed whilst on a season-long loan at Nottingham Forest, scoring nine times in 38 league appearances, including against the Blades at the City Ground.
Dowell, 21, has been capped by England at U16s level, through to the U21s, where he has scored twice in 11 caps, playing alongside Dean Henderson this season.
Speaking of the capture of Dowell, boss Wilder remarked: "We tried to sign Kieran in the summer when David Brooks left. Kieran is a talented player, left-footed, brings a balance to the group and gives us competition at the top of the pitch.
"He had a great loan at Nottingham Forest last season and was in and around the first-team at Everton in the summer when we tried to make a move then. We've been persistent, we've watched him, I went up to Scotland to watch him for England U21s and he's a talented footballer who wants to play games.
"We're looking for him to replicate what he did at Forest and hopefully a little bit more, we feel Kieran will add goals and assists to the group."
Dowell will wear the number eight shirt during his time at the Lane and will first be eligible for selection for the FA Cup tie against Barnet next month.
