Chris Wilder says he felt for the 'excellent' supporters at Birmingham City on Saturday, following the loss at St Andrew's.
The Blades boss remarked: "The supporters were excellent again, the noise before the game was unbelievable, our dressing was underneath the away end and it was a proper big game.
"We got off to a great start but conceded a really poor goal and from then on it was a nothing game really, we didn't do enough to win it.
"I won't settle for second best, there is always something to play for when you pull on that shirt and I've made the players know that.
"We'll look to finish on a high in the last two games, we're massively looking for other results now and that disappointing as we should be well inside the top six."
Wilder added: "But the damage hasn't been caused at Birmingham, it's been when we've dominated games previously, plenty of them and not won.
"We'll look into the players eyes this week and make sure they're fired up for Preston on Saturday, because that didn't do the fans justice.
"It's going to be a tough week for the players and we're going to have to get into them and make sure we reward what will be a big crowd at the Lane with a performance."
