After netting 30 times last term, skipper Billy Sharp has picked up where he left off this season.

And his four goals in five appearances in the opening month of the campaign have seen him nominated for the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month award for August.

Sharp is one of four nominees with the other contenders being...

Darnell Fisher (Preston)
A member of the Rotherham defence which conceded 98 Championship goals last season, the 23-year-old right-back played a full part in Preston's four clean sheets in five August games, demonstrated by his astute goal-line clearance at Leeds.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing (Cardiff City)
Began this campaign with the same exciting brand of attacking flair with which he finished last season, albeit at a new club and a division higher. His four goals from four starts included a stunning finish in the win over Sheffield United.

Martyn Waghorn (Ipswich Town)
Impacts do not come much more immediate than his at Portman Road. Signed from Rangers with the season underway, he scored four goals with his first four shots on target as an Ipswich player in just three-and-a-half games.

The winner will be announced on Friday 8th September.

The judging panel comprises Sky Sports' EFL expert Don Goodman; League Managers' Association Director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet Football Trader Mikey Mumford.
