Sheffield United Academy: Volunteer Scouts

13 November 2017

Sponsored by

Sheffield United is a nationally respected Category 2 Academy based at Shirecliffe in Sheffield. Employing 160 people, the Academy provides 7 day a week coaching for players and scholars and has produced players in Premiership and national sides.

We have an opportunity for individuals with spare time and some experience in playing, coaching or scouting within elite football, to join us as volunteer scouts.

Attending approximately one match per week, you will be asked to watch specific players and/or teams in the Huddersfield/Sheffield/Chesterfield/Mansfield areas. These players may be in any of the age groups currently coached at the Academy. All matches will be local to you and you will need to update PMA online.

In return you will receive regular training on scouting and safeguarding and will be provided with a loan uniform.

In order to be successful as a volunteer scout, you will need to:

  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of football and youth development
  • Understand and adhere to scouting protocol and procedures
  • Build networks/contacts within grassroots football
  • Be well presented, personable and trustworthy as an Ambassador of Sheffield United
  • Have excellent character references, and, where necessary, agree to a DBS check.
  • Live in or close to one of the locations listed above.

To express an interest in volunteering at Sheffield United Football Club, please contact Ashley Foyle, Head of Academy Recruitment at no later than Monday 27th November 2017. Please note this role is a volunteer position and as is therefore unpaid.

Sheffield United Football Club is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
