The senior management team at United has been strengthened.
The Blades, who have made a strong start following their promotion to the Championship, have appointed Simon Ratcliffe as chief financial officer. It is the second significant appointment to the off-the-field team, Andrew Birks having been appointed as chief operations officer.
Simon's arrival at Bramall Lane provides the club with strategic strength in its finance function and is a key part of the club's proactive response to Championship football and beyond.
Born and raised in Nottingham, Simon aged 51, has spent most of his career in business. He started in the pharmaceuticals sector and within four years had risen to financial director with Aventis Pharma, working in Amsterdam, Paris and Singapore.
He remained in the sector for 18 years before joining Applied Language Solutions, where he was instrumental in driving the business forward before joining Purple Wifi where he was involved in the restructuring of the business. Most recently Simon was with South Yorkshire-based multi-channel support business, Parseq.
Simon, who lives in Sheffield has a keen interest in sport, said: "I am delighted to have joined such a long-established and high-profile sporting brand."
