Season review - September 2016

31 May 2017

Our season review of the memorable 2016/17 campaign continues as we reflect on an unbeaten September that really got the Blades moving in the right direction.

Having ended August in 20th position in the table, Chris Wilder's side picked up 13 points from a possible 15 to rise to sixth entering October.

The action began in front of the Sky cameras, where second-half goals from Kieron Freeman and skipper Billy Sharp (a late winner from the penalty spot) saw off Gillingham at Priestfield, despite Bradley Dack's opener.

Next up was a first ever clash against AFC Wimbledon in the capital and goals from Mark Duffy, his first for United, Sharp and Matt Done were enough to make it consecutive away victories.

Back at Bramall Lane, Done scored the only goal of the game to see off Peterborough United, prior to Sharp rescuing a point from the spot at then leaders Scunthorpe after Chris Basham had harshly been sent-off for a challenge on Neal Bishop having opened the scoring in a 2-2 stalemate.

The month ended under the lights at the Lane, where Harry Chapman's second-half header and subsequent back flips secured another 1-0 victory and three more points to the ever increasing tally.
