Season review - August 2016

30 May 2017

Winning promotion back to the Championship and finishing as Champions with 100 points, the 2016/17 campaign was a season to remember for all connected to Sheffield United Football Club.

And sufc.co.uk are going to make it all feel like it happened yesterday as we review the record-breaking success month-by-month.

It seems like a lifetime ago now, but as all Unitedites will remember the month of August wasn't all that memorable.

The season opener at Bolton ended in defeat with Jay Spearing scoring the only goal of the game. Three home games followed; losing in extra-time to Crewe Alexandra in the EFL Cup, Billy Sharp rescueing a point against Rochdale, prior to a 3-0 loss against Southend United.

Simon Moore made his debut in the 2-1 defeat at Millwall, but James Wilson's second-half header from Mark Duffy's free-kick against Oxford United after Sharp had restored parity, saw the Blades gain a first success on the final Saturday of the month.

August ended with a penalty shootout defeat to Leicester City in the Checkatrade Trophy.
