Season Review - December 2016

5 June 2017

Our season review continues through this week as we continue to look back at a memorable 2016/17 campaign for all associated with the Blades.

12 points from four matches in December saw United enter 2017 in pole position at the summit of EFL League One and it was a position that was never to be relinquished!

The month of Christmas began with defeat at Bolton Wanderers in the second round of the Emirates FA Cup, but that was quickly forgotten about as Swindon Town were handsomely beaten at Bramall Lane, with the Blades producing a second-half masterclass to beat the struggling Robins 4-0.

A Thursday night trip to Coventry was next, with Sky Sports also in attendance and despite the efforts of the Sky Blues and their supporters, Billy Sharp's brace, including a late winner was enough to see Chris Wilder's men snatch all three points as the Blades went second entering the festive period.

Boxing Day saw Oldham turned over at the Lane with the skipper netting another double and the curtain came down on 2016 five days later in dramatic fashion as Kieron Freeman's last gasp effort in front of the Kop sunk Northampton Town and in the process fired the Blades to the top of the division.
