U18s 3-1 Birmingham - report

8 January 2017

United's U18s kicked off 2017 with a deserved victory over Birmingham City at the SteelPhalt Academy.

Having fallen behind just after the half hour, goals from Joseph Cummings, Tyler Smith and substitute David Parkhouse were enough to see of the Blues.

The opening 30 minutes saw United control much of the game and have the majority of the chances, but it was City who scored first, capitalising on a set-piece which the Blades failed to clear.

The response was instant though and before the break the home side levelled as CUMMINGS headed home a free-kick from Greaves.

Seven minutes into the second-half SMITH scored from the penalty spot after Gilmour had been fouled.

In response, Birmingham forced goalkeeper Warhurst into two fantastic one handed saves, before substitute PARKHOUSE made the game safe for the home side shortly after replacing Hirst.

Blades: Warhurst, Charlesworth, Cantrill, A. Brown, T. Smith, Gilmour, Doherty (Ford 79), Trialist (Mallon 56), Hirst (Parkhouse 74), Greaves.
Unused: Perryman, Ferguson.
