Chris Wilder said he is delighted to see Leon Clarke pen a new and improved deal, one that sees him commit his future to United until the summer of 2020.
Reacting to Friday's announcement, the Gaffer remarked: "We've extended it in length and rewarded it like we did with John Fleck, Jack O'Connell and David Brooks.
"Leon has enjoyed an outstanding start to the season, he is the Championship's leading goalscorer, but his attitude and all round has given us chances of winning games of football.
"Leon is happy here, he wanted to stay, I'll be honest we had to look at his contract and improve and reward him."
Wilder added: "I would imagine if we put him on the open market in January he could get a lot more money elsewhere, but he wants to play his football here for the foreseeable future and I'm delighted.
"I know the going prices and they are at the top end for strikers in the Championship, so whilst Leon has been rewarded and had his contracted improved it is certainly not a money making exercise for him."
