Gaffer on Bees

4 August 2017

Blades boss Chris Wilder is urging his side to be positive as the Blades begin life back in the Championship against a Brentford side for which he has a lot of respect.

Speaking ahead of welcoming Dean Smith's side to the Lane, Wilder remarked: "It certainly isn't little old Brentford anymore, they've finished in the top ten in consecutive seasons and they've had a go this summer in terms of bringing some players in on the back of Scott Hogan leaving.

"They are an ambitious club and building a new stadium in West London takes some doing, so I look at Brentford as an outstanding football club with good experienced management who we know well.

"They are a very technical and mobile footballing side, particularly the front three. They want to pass and play and have done outstanding well in the last three years."

The Gaffer added: "But it's at the Lane, there will be a very big crowd in our favour and we don't want to change how we play.

"We want to make it hostile and intimidating and we want to give it a go. We will be positive and everyone wants to win the opening day of the season to try and set the tone."
