Chris Wilder expects Saturday's early kick-off against Barnsley to be a typical, action-packed South Yorkshire derby.
The managers of both clubs are boyhood supporters of their respective teams, but the United chief doesn't think that has a major bearing on things.
He remarked: "Even taking myself and Paul (Heckingbottom) out of the occasion, it would still be a highly contested and competitive game.
"It's two local sides and it's a derby game, it will be what it says on the tin and contain everything you expect to see."
Wilder added: "We'll do our preparation on Barnsley, but I'm focusing on us. We aren't happy with the situation, regardless of outside influence we have to look at ourselves and see how we can improve to get a positive result.
"I want us to be right for Saturday and we are determined to make sure we do enough in both boxes for it to make a difference in the final reckoning."
