Goals from Tyler Smith and Regan Slater saw United beat Steel City rivals Sheffield Wednesday at Middlewood Road on Monday afternoon.
The Blades scored in each half to return to winning ways to enhance prospects of a top-two finish and also deny the Owls claiming the Professional Development League 2 title.
United were quick to seize the initiative and took the lead in just the third minute. A short free-kick on the right ended with Brooks crossing to the back post and from Graham's header across goal SMITH nodded home from close-range.
The hosts, who included Lewis McGugan and Liam Palmer in their team, tried to find a way back into the contest before the break, but goalscoring opportunities were at a premium.
Wednesday were on the front foot immediately after the restart with Thorniley curling a left-footed effort inches wide.
But just after the hour, after Hirst had missed for the Owls, United doubled their advantage. Smith found himself in behind the home defence and he held the ball up perfectly before playing it into the path of the onrushing SLATER, who fired home first time from the edge of the penalty area.
The home side chased the game thereafter, with Eastwood showing his agility to deny substitute Preston and despite a late header from O'GRADY from Stobbs's cross, the Blades held on for a deserved victory.
Blades: Eastwood; Bennett, Graham, Cantrill, Kelly; Smith (Hallam 76), Reed, Slater, Mallon (Gilmour 54), Brooks (Charlesworth 86), Hirst.
