Heather LFC 1-6 Sheffield United Ladies - report

11 September 2016

United ladies enjoyed their first cup game of the new season with a comfortable win in the East Midlands League Cup. The hosts were Leicestershire side Heather from Division One South.

This was United's first game in this particular competition since winning the final back in 2006 and fielded two survivors from that side, Rachel Ruddach and Jorden Spurr. Heather had a former Blade in their ranks in Cat Davies but couldn't bridge the gulf in class between the two sides.

First half goals from Sophie Bell (4mins), Jen Pearson (24mins) and player of the match Alex Hickerman (27mins) separated the teams at the break.

Substitute Kim Brown scored the fourth on 77 minutes and another on 85 after Jodie Hartley had made it five on 82 minutes to complete the 6-1 win.

Blades: Johnson, Hopkinson (Ruddach), Neary (Spurr), Cawthorn, Wainwright, Darbyshire, Hickerman, Pearson, Hartley, Smith (Brown), Bell.
