Stoke 4-0 U23s - report

3 October 2016

United's Premier League Cup campaign got off to a disappointing start against Stoke City at the Bet365 Stadium on Saturday.

A brace from Julien Ngoy and goals from Dominic Telford and Thibaud Verlinden saw the Potters run out convincing winners against a Blades side that included the likes of George Long, Louis Reed and David Brooks.

Stoke opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, VERLINDEN showed some trickery cutting in-field from the left before firing into the top corner past Long.

And just after the half hour the hosts doubled their advantage with Verlinden going from scorer to provider, crossing for TELFORD to head home.

Unfortunately for the Blades, the second-half followed a similar pattern to the first, with the home side in control.

In the 65th minute City made it three when NGOY got his first of the afternoon, racing on to Telford pass before whipping a shot into the far corner.

And it was NGOY who rounded off the scoring in the 78th minute, with Telford again the provider.

Blades: Long; Charlesworth, Kelly, Gilmour, Graham, Semple, Hallam (T Smith 62), Reed, Wright, Brooks, K Smith.
Unused: Hall, Pollard, Slater.
