We are only in late October, but Chris Wilder has admitted the club are already working hard behind the scenes ahead of the January transfer window opening.
Although nobody other than free agents can be signed outside of the transfer windows, Wilder wants United to be on the front foot when the window re-opens in the New Year.
On the subject of recruitment, Wilder remarked: "We've got contacts all over the place because we have too these days and recruitment is always going to be key.
"It is key to being successful and we will always look in different areas, in different countries, with the aim to make us stronger."
The Blades boss added: "We are looking short to medium term now, we want to be there or thereabouts in January then strengthen in certain positions to make us better for the second half of the campaign.
"As a coaching staff we are working hard on the training pitch to improve with what we already have, but behind the scenes Paul Mitchell is working tirelessly in a bid to identify players that would could become targets in January."
