Hull City 0-2 U18s - report

31 October 2016

United's U18s warmed up for their FA Youth Cup tie against Crewe Alexandra with a deserved victory over Premier League opposition on Saturday.

A goal in each half from Tyler Smith and the in-form Jordan Hallam paved the way for a third consecutive Professional Development League victory and in the process, extended the unbeaten run in the league to seven matches.

The Blades started positively in West Yorkshire and Burton had two sights of goal in the opening 20 minutes, with Greaves and Smith prominent for the visitors.

So, it was no surprise when in the 27th minute SMITH side footed home from six yards out after an excellent delivery from Hallam.

The prolific Hallam looked a constant threat to the hosts defence and before the break had a couple of half chances to double United's lead, but at the interval, having rarely been troubled the score remained one-nil.

Derek Geary's youngsters were quickly out of the blocks in the second period too and in the 51st minute they deservedly doubled the lead. Smith went from scorer to provider crossing from the right for HALLAM to maintain his excellent scoring record this term.

Mallon and Parkhouse replaced Smith and Burton respectively and the former, along with the ever-dangerous Hallam both had chances to make it three, but in the end two was more than enough, much to the delight of Lead Coach Geary, who remarked: "This was another terrific performance and deserved victory.

"We have started brilliantly this term and really built on the promise of last season where we came second in the league before losing in the play-off final on penalties.

"There is still room for improvement but we are very pleased with our progress and optimistic looking ahead."

Blades: Perryman, Charlesworth, Cummings, Gilmour, Semple (Cantrill 21), Ford, T. Smith (Mallon 62), Slater, Burton (Parkhouse 72), Hallam, Greaves.
Unused: Warhurst, Steward.
