It took until the second half to break Dinnington's defence down but United eased passed their opponents in this Sheffield and Hallamshire County Cup second round tie.
United took the opportunity to rest a couple of key players and gave a start to debutant Morgan White in place of Rosa Neary at centre-back. Back in the squad was striker Annalise Carroll after missing the last two games.
Whilst thankfully dry, the pitch was still heavy and proved something of a leveller with players finding their feet throughout. United had the most possession and had several shots throughout the first half. Striker Kim Brown went close a few times but stubborn blocking by the Dinnington defence and saves by their highly-rated keeper Hannah Jasper kept the Blades out.
Dinnington held out well until just before the hour when Sophie Bell scored one of her specials, cutting in from the left to fire United ahead. United then sent on Carroll as the target centre-forward and she wasted no time in scoring the second goal within seconds of coming on.
Brave Dinnington were struggling to get the ball out of their half now and United peppered their goal relentlessly. One shot was cleared off the line, Jen Pearson hit a post and 'keeper Jasper and her defence were kept very busy.
Cara Hopkinson, released from right-back duty, was adding to the attacks and she fired in a fine goal after 72 minutes to make it 3-0. A minute later Carroll scored again, calmly dribbling past two defenders to slot home the fourth.
United kept the pressure on and the industrious Jodie Hartley claimed the last goal though with six minutes left. Her shot partially saved but still had enough on it to drop in for 5-0. United even had the luxury of being able to miss a late penalty when Bell shot over the cross bar.
A tiring game in not ideal conditions but played in good spirit. For the next round United have drawn their own development team in round three on 18th December. Thus the vital league game originally scheduled with Peterborough that day will probably be played at the end of the season now.
Blades: Johnson, Hopkinson, Cawthorn, White, Wainwright (Ruddach), Bell, Hall (Carroll), Pearson, Hartley, Smith, Brown (Darbyshire).
