Chris Wilder revealed fellow Sheffielder Billy Sharp will captain the Blades next season.
At Friday's press conference, new boss Wilder outlined some of his plans and they included handing the armband to the 21-goal leading scorer.
"We've picked a captain," Wilder told the media. "I know Billy Sharp very well and if there's a man to lead the club forward in my era it is the character and ability of someone like Billy, who like myself, understands the club and knows it needs to win promotion, he has promotions on his CV.
"He has done the business at the top end of the pitch this season, he's achieved, and it was interesting to listen to Billy at the end of the season when he scooped the awards and I'm sure he wants to lead the club on to promotion.
"Billy has a very important part to play, he has to lead from the front and he needs to ensure the playing side are all pulling in the right direction. He's the perfect candidate."
