A brace from Diego De Girolamo helped United's U21s make it 17 matches unbeaten in the Professional Development League with a hard-fought victory in the capital on Monday afternoon.
The striker scored twice inside the opening 25 minutes to put the Blades in the ascendency and despite conceding early in the second-half, the youngsters manfully defended the lead to keep the pressure on divisional leaders Huddersfield Town as United furthered cemented their hopes of a top two finish.
The opening goal came in the 15th minute direct from a free-kick. Quick thinking from DE GIROLAMO saw him put the ball down and curl home as the goalkeeper lined up his defensive wall, with credit also going to Wright for seeking permission from the referee to take the set-piece as the Lions dallied.
Ten minutes later the lead was double as DE GIROLAMO applied the finishing touch to an excellent team move with Wright and Brooks also involved.
In the 54th minute the Lions, who themselves were 12 games unbeaten entering the contest, gave themselves hope of a comeback as they scored after getting in behind the visitors defence.
But to their credit the young Blades battled on gamely and defended resolutely, much to the delight of U21 Coach John Dungworth, who remarked: "It is another excellent victory and a deserved one too.
"We had another young side out but they all gave it everything, we defended very well having conceded and didn't look like relinquishing the lead.
"The win keeps the run going and it is the players who deserve all the credit, they are achieving something very special and everyone is contributing to the success."
