Following United's first loss of pre-season, Chris Wilder offered no excuses.
The Blades lost 2-0 to FC Halifax Town at the Shay Stadium on Tuesday evening and speaking post-match, the Blades boss conceded the defeat will act as a learning curve for both the management and the players.
Wilder said: "I'm not happy because we've lost and that's the top and bottom of it for me.
"Our season has started but we didn't start here. Maybe we thought this would be another game where we could put our foot on the ball and roll it around a little bit.
"It wasn't. We got shocked and, to be honest, I'm glad that we did."
The Gaffer added: "This hasn't been a good game for us but, in a different way, it might be a good game for me because it's highlighted a few things going forward."
"The game was exactly what I wanted. It was physical and it was tough. We didn't start well and perhaps it's a bit of a wake-up call."
