Academy welcomes new scholars

13 July 2016

United's SteelPhalt Academy at Shirecliffe has welcomed nine new scholars ahead of the 2016-17 campaign.

Academy Manager Travis Binnion, along with U18 coaches Derek Geary, Jamie Annerson and the experienced Mick Wadsworth were all on hand to greet the youngsters as their returned for pre-season training earlier this month.

Several of the players are Sheffield-born and have progressed through United's coveted system over the years and Binnion is now looking forward to seeing them kick on to the next level.

He remarked: "It is always a special moment to welcome the first-year scholars back for pre-season, although a lot of these lads are no strangers to the Academy.

"It is an exciting time, but now the hard work starts and the lads now they are going to have to knuckle down and work extremely hard in the coming weeks and months as they look to make a positive first impression."

All at SUFC would like to wish the best of luck to George Cantrill, Jordan Doherty, Sam Graham, Oliver Greaves, Cameron Hawkes, David Parkhouse, William Portman, Regan Slater and Hugo Warhurst.‚Äč
