Hull 1-1 U21s - report

26 January 2016

Bob Harris completed 45 minutes, as United's U21s drew 1-1 with Hull City at the EON Visual Media Stadium, home of North Ferriby United, on Monday evening.

Florent Cuvelier also came through an hour of the stalemate, which saw a youthful looking United side, under the stewardship of Travis Binnion, John Dungworth and Brian Deane, gain a deserved point against Championship opposition.

Kimarni Smith on his U21s debut headed the visitors in front, only for City to level through Johan Ter Horst moments later.

In testing conditions, the home side had the majority of possession in the first-half and should have taken the lead inside ten minutes.

A misunderstanding in the Blades defence led to miscued clearance that flew across the box, only for Ter Horst to miss the target with the goal at his mercy.

At the other end, Cuvelier and Hall combined, before the latter saw an effort blocked and Brooks was inches away from setting free the advancing Gordon.

Although the Blades had come into the game as the first-half progressed, City missed another good chance with the final action of the opening 45 minutes with Bowen guilty this time.

Young Brown replaced Harris at the break, with Kelly reverting to his more accustomed left-back slot and within three minutes of the restart the Republic of Ireland youth international provided the cross which saw the Blades take the lead, as SMITH powered home a header from close-range.

Despite being in the ascendency the advantage lasted only a matter of minutes as United gifted the Tigers an equaliser. A punt forward evaded the Blades defence and bounced over Ramsdale to allow TER HORST to tap into the empty net.

The final half hour was an even affair, Smith and Hall had half chances for United, whilst Hull applied plenty of pressure without creating any clear cut chances.

Mallon replaced Cuvelier on the hour and impressed in the latter stages, but despite his best efforts was unable to craft a winning goal.

The Blades are next in action on Monday, as Bramall Lane plays hosts to the clash against Huddersfield Town, kick-off 1pm.

Blades: Ramsdale, Kelly, Harris (Brown 45), Gordon, Cummings, Semple, Cuvelier (Mallon 60), Whiteman, Hall, Brooks (Gilmour 83), Smith.
Unused: Perryman, Litchfield.
